‘Delighted’… Eddie Howe now thinks 21-year-old Newcastle player is in outstanding form right now

A lot has been made about Newcastle United’s summer transfer business, but in Tino Livramento they bought an absolute superstar.

Out of all the players Newcastle bought before the 2023/24 season, Tino Livramento has had the biggest impact. And that is certainly surprising, as he was brought in to provide cover for Kieran Trippier at right-back.

But injuries have given Livramento the chance to play regularly, with the 21-year-old starting the Magpies’ last three games at left-back.

He has taken the injured Dan Burn‘s place in defence, and is now very much making it his own.

The youngster was outrageously good against Paris Saint-Germain, and he picked up where he left off on Saturday night versus Manchester United.

Livramento had the freedom of St James’ Park down the left, causing the Red Devils countless problems with his endless energy, speed and power.

While Anthony Gordon got the crucial goal, Livramento was the talk of the Toon after the full time whistle.

He is currently looking cheap at £32million, and Eddie Howe is delighted with how well the defender is playing as of late.

Eddie Howe ‘delighted’ with how Tino Livramento is playing

Following the 1-0 win over Manchester United, Howe spoke to BBC Radio Newcastle. He was asked about Livramento’s recent ‘outstanding’ form.

“He has [been outstanding],” he said.

“I think today showed his technical quality, his athleticism, showed his ability to attack.

“Although it’s maybe not his favoured side, you wouldn’t have known that from today. I thought he and Anthony linked well and gave good balance to the team. I was delighted with how he looked.”

Newcastle have struck gold with Livramento

Even out of position, Livramento looked top class against Manchester United, just like he did in Paris on Tuesday.

He dovetailed brilliantly with Gordon down the Newcastle left, with his speed and dribbling ability allowing the Magpies to attack down that side in a way that they are unable to when Burn plays.

Based on current form, Livramento should be the one playing at left-back when everyone is fit. He already looks so comfortable in this Newcastle team, and the exciting thing is that he is going to keep getting better.

A lot of eyebrows were raised when Newcastle chased Livramento so relentlessly during the summer, but the Magpies have once again struck gold in the transfer market.

What a signing he is proving to be, and this is only just the beginning of what is going to be an incredible career on Tyneside.
